Dr Nay Aung graduated from University College London (UCL) medical school with a merit and an award for the best overall performance in the final examination. He obtained his membership of Royal College of Physicians, UK in 2011. Having finished the general physician training in London, he commenced his specialist Cardiology training in London deanery in 2012. He has completed the European Examination in General Cardiology in 2015 and has been accredited with a Level-3 certification for cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) by European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). He is a member of British Cardiovascular Society and European Society of Cardiology. In 2015, he was awarded with a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training fellowship to pursue a doctoral degree, investigating the genetic architecture of cardiovascular structural phenotypes in the UK Biobank population imaging study. He has expertise in handling large datasets, working with high-performance computing cluster, predictive modelling techniques and creation of interactive data visualisation tools using versatile programming languages such as Python and R. His research interests include population genetics, cardiovascular epidemiology, studying the influence of ambient air pollution on circulatory health, advanced machine learning to gain insights into common and complex diseases, and automation of image analysis by deep learning.
